Development of NatureFX

Natureline's NatureFX

NatureFX

Natureline Solutions has been exploring how to reverse the effects to our bodies of the harsh chemicals we expose ourselves to every day.

Exposure to toxins in the environment has lead to such things as chemical sensitivities and premature appearance of aging in addition to numerous health issues.

What is apparent is that many of the products on the market purporting to help in this area were themselves contributing to the problem! Expensive products that were cheaply made with poor quality, harsh ingredients and hazardous cheap bulking agents.

This research lead Natureline to every corner of the globe and eventually we found naturally derived (botanically based) anti aging and hair care solutions developed from the deepest recesses of the African subcontinent. Working with world renowned pharmacists and master product formulators, the father and son team of Lou and Darryl Segal, we developed the NatureFX line of anti aging skin and hair care.

Natureline has been privileged to participate in this final chapter in a remarkable story that all started some four decades ago with Lou Segal uncovering the remarkable properties of the East African Rooibos bush and its almost miraculous restorative antioxidant properties from the indigenous tribal moon rituals of a small and isolated tribe deep in the jungles of Africa. Together with his son Daryl, they combined the secret family extraction processes, formulas and blending techniques with the very latest technological advancements in delivery mechanisms and naturally derived technologies in order to continually improve and enhance their secret formulas to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and maximize the health and appearance of thinning damaged hair in men and women.

Today the Segals proudly partner up with Natureline Solutions to bring the wonders of their amazing discovery to as many people as possible around the world with the exclusive NatureFX formulas.

The accidental discovery that will make history.

NatureFX was researched and formulated by South African Pharmacist and expert Formulator Darryl Segal. In these formulations he uses a unique herbal infusion of curative African botanicals, which his father, Lou Segal, also a formulator and pharmacist, discovered during a safari in southeast Africa.

It all began in Cape Town, South Africa, where the family lived and Lou Segal owned a number of successful pharmacies. Lou Segal was a highly qualified pharmacist and apothecary. Classically trained in South Africa in processes of plant and herb extraction he was an expert in formulating products tailored to the specific ailments of his clientele. In the sixties many of Lou's clients were from the poor neighboring districts where ancient tribal beliefs held root then as they still do to this day. Many of native clients presented ailments caused by the evil spirits in which they firmly believed and which terrified them. They looked to Lou Segal to mitigate their symptoms and alleviate them of their haunting spirits.

Intrigued by their belief systems Lou set out to learn more about them by going on an exploratory safari. That one African safari four decades ago would change the course of Lou's business career and his life completely. Part of the safari was a tour of the different tribes of the region. Each tribe would perform a different ritual to solve their biggest problem in life, evil spirits.

Lou noticed an odd phenomenon once he visited the tribes; one particular tribe was significantly different. They had incredibly thick, full looking hair and skin that was smooth and young looking. This was extraordinary in the harsh arid environment they lived in. The elders who were in their 60's looked like they were 40! The other tribes, some just a mile or two away, had thin looking hair and extremely aged sun damaged skin. On further investigation, and through translated conversation with the chief of this incredible tribe, Lou found out that this particular tribe had a very unique "Moon" ritual.

The tribe would gather plants, roots, leaves, and tree bark which they then mixed into a paste. In the evening they would then apply it to their face and head and point their heads to the moon. In this way they believed the evil spirits were being released. The chief walked Lou through the process they used taking the roots and leaves, among other things, and turning them into a thick paste that they would then use in their rituals unaware that in all likelihood this was the cause of their healthy appearance. Lou left with a sample of this precious mixture as a gift from the tribal elders.

Little did the tribe know that they were giving themselves the most natural and incredibly potent beauty treatment available!

Lou took the sample back to his laboratory in Cape Town and started the arduous task of analyzing the components and through several years of trial and error testing and retesting managed to determine the correct processes for extracting the active components unharmed and incorporating them into safe and effective products. After a number of formulation changes people all over South Africa started seeing results and these products became a major success story in the country.

One of the plants in this mixture was Rooibos (pronounced "roy-boss"), also known as African Red Bush. It was found to be extremely rich in antioxidants, due to the harsh environment it grows in, with levels probably higher then any other plant known! 37 powerful antioxidants in all! The other special plant ingredient in the original tribal formula was Shea Butter, a potent moisturizer.

Lou Segal is still a household name in South Africa. Responsible for what to this day remain some of the most popular brands. He left South Africa 15 years ago along with so many at the height of the political unrest in an effort to keep his family safe, leaving with only his vast knowledge of tribal medicines and his lifetime of product formulations. Settling in Canada his son Darryl followed in his footsteps continuing the Segal dynasty. Darryl has combined the tribal secrets handed down from his father with the very best that modern science has to offer.

Professional Formulator Darryl Segal spent his entire career researching and updating his father Lou's original formulas. Darryl and his full time team of chemists and formulators have now teamed up with Natureline Solutions and created the exclusive NatureFX formulas and added some of the most exciting skin care and hair care breakthroughs known to science. A unique blend of the most popular and well recognized antioxidants, Alpha Lipoic Acid, C0Q10, Green Tea Extract, Vitamins A, E & C, Hyaluronic Acid as well as a blend of tri-peptides was added to the potent natural tribal formula to create the best product possible. This is NatureFX! Exclusively available for Natureline members and distributors.

NatureFX is also enhanced with world famous, clinically proven and internationally recognized peptides:

Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 & Pentapepide

A botox alternative treatment! Comprised of an anti-wrinkle peptide, which works through a unique mechanism that relaxes facial tension leading to a reduction in superficial facial lines and wrinkles with regular use. Clinical studies indicate a reduction in wrinkle depth of as much as 30% after 30 days of continuous use. It both reduces the degree of existing wrinkles and has been demonstrated effective against their development.

Palmitoyl Oligopeptide

These peptides are comprised of amino acids lysine, threonine and serine combined with palmitic acid making it lypophilic (likes fat) a combination that mimics natures tissue-regenerating process by signaling the cells of dermis to synthesize proteins (collagen I, III & IV) & polysaccharides (glycoaminoglycanes, hylauronic acid) which makes up the connective tissue necessary for padding the skin. These peptides are as effective as Retinol in improving the effects of photo aging without the side-effects associated with Retinol such as redness and drying of the skin.

NatureFX, due to the powerful ingredients, can also help in the following areas: sun damage, inflammation, increase firmness and hydration, helps reduce acne, helps reduce age spots.

NatureFX is pH balanced to match the pH levels of the skin.

NatureFX is not animal tested and does not contain any animal ingredients.

NatureFX Skin Care Science

Maintaining or recovering a youthful appearance is a multibillion dollar industry driven by the desire for healthy, great looking skin, regardless of age. Whether consciously or not, we associate the age and attractiveness of an individual with the appearance of his or her skin. Like other organs of the body, the physiological functions and structures within the skin continuously decline with advancing age. Dry skin, fine lines and deep wrinkles, enlarged pores, and age spots are all outward signs we associate with aging skin. Learning more about the process of skin aging can help you understand how to delay and minimize some natural skin aging processes.

Three Factors in Aging

Many factors, both extrinsic and intrinsic, cause the skin to age. Those causes can easily be divided into three main categories: biological aging, environmental aging, and mechanical aging. Let's look at each cause individually to understand ways they can be minimized.

The first category is biological aging.

Biological aging is the result of changes, often genetically determined, that occur naturally within the body. Everyone has a biological clock or chronological age determined by genetic makeup. This applies to the skin as well. As our biological clock ticks, our skin gradually loses its ability to function as it once did. Biological aging occurs as a result of natural changes within the body that manifest themselves in outward signs of aging on the skin. Frequently, changes associated with biological aging are the result of a gradual shift in the balance of certain hormones and messenger molecules excreted by other glands and organs within the body. Many of these changes are genetically determined and cannot be stopped.

Fortunately, some of the factors contributing to biological aging can be controlled. Scientists are beginning to understand how free radicals (unstable molecules) damage proteins, lipids, and the DNA within cells, and, in turn, accelerate the biological aging process. Antioxidants are molecules with the ability to neutralize free radicals in the skin. A healthy diet full of antioxidant rich fruits and vegetables, along with nutritional supplementation and topical application of key nutrients, may help decrease the intensity and delay the onset of many changes that are a result of biological aging.

The second category of factors that cause the skin to age are all results of extrinsic sources in the environment.

Environmental aging occurs as a result of daily exposure to trillions of free radicals from a variety of sources: the sun's ultraviolet rays, pollution, smoke, harsh weather, and external stress. These free radicals damage lipids, proteins, and DNA, all of which limit the ability of cells to function and cripple the integrity of overall cell composition. Years of accumulated environmental stress on cellular structures results in the premature aging of the skin.

Sun exposure is the primary environmental stressor leading to damaged skin. The damage to skin components caused by both prolonged and incidental sun exposure is called photo aging. Although cigarette smoke, exposure to harsh weather conditions, and pollution are prolific contributors to environmental aging, UV damage from the sun's rays accounts for 90 percent of premature skin aging.

Photo aging damages collagen, elastin, melanocytes, and the moisture barrier, resulting in wrinkles, sagging, uneven skin tone, dark spots, and a rough, dry skin texture.

While sun exposure is the environmental stressor that accounts for most premature skin aging, there are others. Pollution damages skin by increasing free radical production and increasing the effects of UV radiation. Harsh weather (dry air, wind, and cold) depletes skin of essential moisture, resulting in a rough texture and fine, dry lines. Cigarette smoke increases free radical production and may decrease collagen and elastin production. Cigarettes also significantly decrease the supply of oxygen to skin cells.

The third category of aging is called mechanical aging.

Mechanical aging is the result of continually repeated wrinkle causing behaviors, muscle movements repeated day after day and year after year. Although it is unrealistic to avoid some wrinkle causing behaviors such as smiling and frowning, the following behaviors should be avoided to help prevent premature signs of mechanical aging:

Squinting.
Resting chin or cheek in the hand.
Sleeping on your side or stomach.
Scrubbing with hot water.
Weight fluctuation.
Unbalanced diet and lack of sleep.
Pursing the lips.

Evidence of Aging: Changes in Physiology

Skin aging results from the deterioration of structures in the skin and the slowing of healthy skin functions. Let's take a closer look at several of the visible signs of skin aging and what is happening inside the skin to cause these changes.

Dry skin is a visible sign of skin aging. Healthy, young skin maintains appropriate moisture levels through the sealing properties of the moisture barrier, which is composed of keratin-filled keratinocytes (skin cells) surrounded by and sealed together with interspersed epidermal lipids (ceramides, lipids, and fatty acids). As we age, the skin produces fewer ceramides, lipids, and fatty acids to seal the moisture barrier, resulting in an increase in transepidermal water loss and dryness.

The natural decline in hormone levels is usually the cause of this decreased production; however, several other preventable factors can also strip epidermal lipids, causing excessive dryness. Consider the following:

Improper skin care. Using harsh cleansers and neglecting to supplement the skin with rich, nourishing moisturizers.

Harsh weather conditions. Enduring extreme temperatures and wind without adequate moisturizers and protection.

UV radiation. Neglecting to protect skin from the sun's UV rays with sunscreen.

A dull, rough complexion is another visible sign of skin aging. Healthy, young skin remains smooth and radiant because fresh, new cells are brought to the surface as older cells are continuously shed. The skin cells in the bottom layer of the epidermis (stratum basale) constantly divide through cell division, forming new keratinocytes. This regenerative process is called skin cell renewal. As we age, the rate of skin cell renewal decreases, causing cells to become more sticky and not shed as easily. As a result of cell renewal decreasing, the skin becomes thinner and more susceptible to environmental damage, especially photo damage from the sun's UV rays. Eventually, the skin appears dull and rough in texture.

Several factors contribute to the process of skin cell renewal declining as we age. For example, weakened blood vessels in the dermis and a flattening of dermal papillae decreases the surface area between the dermis and epidermis across which nutrients can diffuse. This process decreases nutrient and oxygen supplies to the basal cells in the lower epidermis. UV exposure can also penetrate the epidermis, damage basal cells, and slow the rate of cell division. Finally, failure to exfoliate the surface of the skin with physical and chemical exfoliates for the purpose of smoothing the skin and stimulating cell renewal contributes to the decline in renewal.

A third visible sign of aging is fine lines and deep wrinkles in the skin. The structural protein called collagen, which is found in the dermis, provides a mesh-like framework of support and strength for the skin. As we age, collagen production decreases and collagen fibers degrade at a faster rate than in earlier years. This results in an overall decrease in the amount of collagen in the dermis. Areas with less support begin to cave in and wrinkles begin to form.

Multiple factors lead to decreased collagen levels. First, with age there is a natural decline in messenger molecules that trigger collagen production. There is also an increase in the enzyme collagenase which breaks collagen down. Another factor contributing to decreased collagen levels is free radicals from UV exposure. These can damage collagen strands and stimulate collagenase activity, which leads to the formation of irregular collagen linkages that weaken the skin. In order to avoid UV damage to collagen fibers and fibroblasts, application of a consistent daily sunscreen is necessary. Research also indicates that chemical exfoliation may stimulate collagen production.

Loss of firmness in the skin is another evidence of aging. All three types of skin aging biological, environmental, and mechanical contribute to the skin's loss of firmness. Biologically, our body naturally produces more of the hormone DHT as we age. As DHT levels increase, elastin production is inhibited. Elastin is another skin structural protein found in the dermis. This coil-like protein has the ability to snap back into place after stretching, giving the skin its elastic quality. As we age, elastin fibers lose much of their resilience and elastin production within the fibroblasts decreases. This overall decline in healthy elastin levels results in areas of decreased firmness, especially along the jaw line, neck, and around the eyes. Environmentally, UV rays can penetrate the skin to damage elastin-producing fibroblast cells. Also, as skin cell renewal decreases, wounds heal more slowly and the skin thins, becoming more susceptible to environmental damage. This can lead to damaged fibroblasts and decreased elastin levels. Finally, mechanical stress, due to repeated wrinkle causing behaviors, can permanently stretch out elastin fibers.

Enlarged pores are also a sign of aging skin. To a large degree, pore size is determined by genetics; however, as we age, our pores tend to appear larger. The pore's enlarged appearance is due to a buildup of dead cells around the pore. As more collagen breaks down and production slows, the supportive structures surrounding cells decrease and cells can appear stretched. Keeping the skin exfoliated and the pores clear will help reduce the appearance of pore size. Also, consistently using a sunscreen to protect collagen helps maintain pore size.

UV rays can penetrate the skin and cause damage to collagen-producing fibroblast cells.

Mechanical stress on the skin caused by repeated wrinkle causing behaviors can also break down collagen.

With age, the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) decreases, affecting moisture levels in the dermis; collagen becomes brittle and prone to breakage.

As skin renewal decreases, wounds heal more slowly and the skin thins, becoming more susceptible to environmental stressors; this can lead to damaged fibroblasts and a decrease in collagen levels.

Age spots are the last evidence of aging that we're going to discuss. Normal skin pigmentation helps protect healthy skin from the stress of mild UV exposure. Melanin, the skin's photo protective pigment, is produced in specialized melanocyte cells in the lowest layer of the epidermis (stratum basale). As we age, melanocyte activity decreases, making the skin more susceptible to UV damage. With age, melanocytes also tend to cluster together. This results in patches of pigmentation called age spots.

Many factors contribute to the production of age spots. First, hormone imbalances that occur with advanced age result in fewer melanocytes and can also trigger excessive melanin production. Second, UV light rays stimulate melanocytes to produce skin pigment. UV light can also penetrate the skin and damage melanocyte DNA, which can stimulate melanocytes to enlarge and cluster together. Third, as the cell renewal cycle decreases, wounds heal more slowly and the skin thins, becoming more susceptible to environmental damage. This can lead to damaged melanocytes and abnormal pigmentation. Finally, poor skin care habits can lead to skin irritation, which triggers melanin production.

Prevent Premature Skin Aging

The majority of premature, avoidable skin aging is caused by UV radiation; thus, it is absolutely essential to use a daytime moisturizer that acts as a sunscreen. Even if you aren't in the sun for extended periods, effects of incidental sun exposure accumulate and show up on the skin.

Fortunately, you can turn back the clock on your skin. Even if you did not properly care for your skin in years past, there are many technologically advanced ingredients and exceptional botanicals that help repair sun damage and reverse some of the effects of both biological and mechanical aging. Because youthful, healthy skin portrays confidence and beauty, we are all concerned with what we assume is inevitable skin aging. The good news is that we have more control than we realize over the rate at which our skin ages. Maintaining youthful skin starts with good skin care.

Antioxidants Are Anti-Aging

Despite the seemingly overwhelming assault of free radicals on our healthy cells, there is a line of defense. Antioxidants are a category of nutrients that have the ability to defend our cells by fighting cell-damaging free radicals. Since free radicals are created both in the environment and in our bodies, a continuous supply of antioxidants is critical for internal and external health and longevity. By defending our cells against free radicals, antioxidants can help slow the internal and external aging processes.

Just as health and nutrition experts recommend a high intake of antioxidants from a variety of fruits and vegetables and nutritional supplements, skin care experts are now recognizing the anti-aging benefits of topically applied antioxidants. Some skin care products offer antioxidant benefits directly to the skin by including antioxidant-rich vitamins and extracts in their formulations.

There are hundreds of known antioxidants, many of which are plant derived. In order to protect their constantly exposed tissues from free radicals, plants have developed free radical fighting phytochemicals as a natural defense system. Every plant contains hundreds of phytochemicals, many of which provide antioxidant protection and fulfill many other essential functions.

Antioxidants work together to fight free radicals directly or to regenerate and support other antioxidants; in other words, antioxidants rely on a network for protection and support. In the antioxidant network, carotenoids are the first line of defense. By destroying free radicals, carotenoids protect and enable other antioxidants to perform their more specific and critical functions.

Carotenoids

Carotenoids are a major class of phytonutrients responsible for many of the red, orange, and yellow hues of plant leaves, fruits, and flowers. Examples of carotenoids include beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, lutein, and lycopene. These are natural fat-soluble pigments found principally in plants and algae, where they play a critical role in protecting and aiding the photosynthetic process.

Carotenoids are sometimes referred to as the "first line of defense" because they provide critical antioxidant protection to cells and other antioxidants by absorbing or "blotting up" large amounts of attacking free radicals. This absorption allows other antioxidants to function in more specialized ways. Just as plants produce lipid soluble carotenoids to protect cellular structures composed mostly of lipids, plants also produce phenolic compounds to guard their tissues against free radical damage. These compounds can be fat- or water-soluble.

Flavonoids are a class of polyphenolic compounds. It is estimated that there are over 600 different flavonoids present in foods and beverages. Some common flavonoids are catechins (green tea extract), quercetin, proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract), and soy isoflavones. Flavonoids provide increased cell protection for the DNA as well as promote the repair of DNA damaged by free radical oxidation.

Vitamins and Other Key Antioxidants

The core of the antioxidant network includes powerful antioxidants such as CoQ10 and vitamins C and E. In addition to their free radical fighting properties, these antioxidants have other functions that allow them to make critical contributions to our health and longevity.

Vitamin E is one of the body's most important fat soluble antioxidant nutrients. Vitamin E protects healthy cell membranes (largely composed of fatty acids) from oxidative free radical damage.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is water soluble, enabling it to scavenge free radicals in aqueous (watery) environments, such as the inside of our cells and extra cellular body fluids. Vitamin C works synergistically with vitamin E to quench free radicals and also works to regenerate vitamin E, keeping it active.

Other key antioxidants include coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid. Alpha lipoic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in plants and animals that has the ability to neutralize free radicals. Another important function of alpha lipoic acid is its ability, when applied topically, to improve skin tone and texture. Coenzyme Q10, or CoQ10, is found naturally in our cells; however, CoQ10 levels in the body have been shown to decline after age 20. Highly concentrated within the cell's mitochondria, CoQ10, like vitamins C and E, quenches free radicals and helps regenerate other antioxidants.

In summary, free radicals are highly unstable, reactive molecules that damage the DNA within cells. This damage is passed on to newly replicated cells. Over time, genetic damage builds up and interferes with healthy cell function. Fortunately, antioxidants, the natural compounds found in fruits and vegetables, neutralize the negative effects of free radicals. Some key antioxidants include vitamins E and C, carotenoids, flavonoids, alpha lipoic acid, and CoQ10. Antioxidants are a true defense in fighting the assault of free radical damage on healthy cells.

NatureFX Hair Care Science

Beautiful, shinning hair is a valuable asset. Hair can also be a versatile fashion accessory, to be colored, curled, dressed up, or smoothed down - all in a matter of minutes. However, too much attention, combined with the effects of a poor diet, pollution, air-conditioning and central heating, can mean that your hair becomes the bane of your life rather than your crowning glory.

A daily hair care routine and prompt treatment when problems arise are therefore of vital importance in maintaining the natural beauty of healthy hair.

The normal cycle of hair growth lasts for 2 to 6 years. Each hair grows approximately 1 centimeter (less than half an inch) per month during this phase. About 90 percent of the hair on your scalp is growing at any one time. About 10 percent of the hair on your scalp, at any one time, is in a resting phase. After 2 to 3 months, the resting hair falls out and new hair starts to grow in its place.

It is normal to shed some hair each day as part of this cycle. However, some people may experience excessive (more than normal) hair loss. Hair loss of this type can affect men, women and children.

Hair Loss and You

There are a number of reasons why we lose our hair. The main culprit is genetics. Some of us have a predisposition towards hair loss. This is "handed" down by both our parents and grandparents. However, there are a number of others situations, which if corrected could help overcome hair loss & thinning hair. The most common ones are the following:

Clogged Follicles

Every hair follicle has a sebaceous gland and people with hair loss have a predisposition toward having excess sebum secreted from these glands. This substance accumulates in the follicles and literally 'clogs' it.

A Build up of DHT

One of the major causes of hair loss has been found to be the build up of the hormone DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). This happens when the testosterone, which is in men as well as women, in converted to DHT by the enzyme 5 Alpha Reductase(5AR). The secret then is to reduce the amount of 5AR so that there is as little or no conversion to DHT. There are a number of drugs on the market that can effectively do this, however they do have side-effects. NatureFX can help to achieve this with no side effects.

Poor Blood Circulation

Many people have a "tight" scalp and this results in poor blood circulation. The hair cannot grow properly if it is not nourished with fresh blood and nutrients.

Menopause

As women go through menopause this changes the hormonal balance and causes havoc to the hair.

Birth Control Medication

Has been shown to cause hair loss in women who have a predisposition to this.

Changes in Diet

Especially with crash diets, a lot of men and especially women going on diet cut out protein and this caused severe hair loss. Vegetarians have the same challenge.

General Stress

This is a huge one. Stress is affecting us like no other. Stress causes the hair follicle to tighten, shrink and you notice the hair loss increase. The more stress the more hair loss. This happens not only in men but women as well.

Poor Hair Hygiene

Using the wrong hair products which are full of chemicals, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Cocamide Dea, Sodium Chloride(salt), artificial colouring can also contribute to poor hair health. Having perms, coloring your hair, chemical treatments are obvious causes of hair loss and unhealthy hair.

Most people associate hair loss as being a male problem - not so, in fact about 20% of American women suffer the effects of female pattern baldness (technically known as androgenetic alopecia). Symptoms of this condition are a general thinning of hair over the whole scalp area and a moderate loss of hair on the crown of the head or at the hairline. It is rare for women to develop completely bald areas as men often do. Hair loss in women typically begins around age 30 and becomes noticeable around age 40. The process speeds up after menopause. As with men, hair loss in women is caused by a combination of dietary, genetic and hormonal factors and psychological stress.

For all those women who know their hair is not as thick and vital as it once was the NatureFx 3 Step System will be of immense value. Not only will the system help with hair loss it will help prevent future hair loss and make your hair look thicker and healthier.

Not Just Hair Loss

Probably the most common complaint about hair is damaged unhealthy looking hair. What can be done about dry, brittle hair or split ends? Let's take a look at the different ways hair becomes damaged. Hair is almost pure keratin protein, which is a strong natural substance. At the surface, the natural luster and sheen of the hair is created by the smooth overlapping of the keratin cuticle. Chemicals contained in harsh alkaline shampoos, bleaching agents and waving lotions all take their toll on the protective cuticle of the hair. When the cuticle is injured, moisture from the inner hair layers evaporates, leaving the hair dry and brittle.

How do these toxic chemicals go about damaging hair?

In order for permanent waves or colouring chemicals to "take", they must penetrate the cortex fibres. The cortex is located below the hair cuticle; it determines the condition of the hair and contains most of the pigment particles, which create natural color. When permanent wave or hair coloring chemicals penetrate the cortex, they also damage the rope like structures contained therein. Thus the hair is weakened, often to the point that it will break with even modest combing and brushing. If the damage is excessive, the hair may break at the root and give the impression of hair loss. The moisture loss also causes split ends, decreased body, and lack of shine. Other culprits that damage this delicate cuticle are blow dryers, electric rollers, curling irons and uncoated bobby pins.

Of course, there are other causes of damaged hair in addition to those described above. A deficiency of oil from the sebaceous glands in the follicle can cause dry hair. Nutritional deficiencies, certain medications, poor circulation, heredity and the aging process are other factors.

And here is some bad news for those of you who love the sand and surf - exposure to chlorinated or salt water and the sun can damage unprotected hair. In addition, excessive build-up of salt from perspiration can be another culprit. Of course, this can easily be alleviated by simply washing your hair after a workout or a long, hot day. One more season influence is cold and wind. Just as cold winter winds chap the skin, they can also blow the moisture right out of your hair.

By knowing and understanding the causes of common hair problems, you should be able to actively control them. NatureFX 3 Step System is all you need for healthy beautiful hair.
